Poll time... need some opinions on the following powerhead options for my 150g build. Dimensions are 60x24x24.

1) Tunze 6105
2) Neptune wav
3) MP40

I like them all for different reasons just not sure which to pull the trigger on.

Thanks for the help
-Chris

I like MP's because I had an urchin eat a power cord, but mine has always made a knocking noise.

You can't go wrong with the Tunze, but I would probably go with the WAV just due to the Apex wizards and ease of integration. I might even replace my MP's with WAV's.

+1 on tunze's. If my tank was 5ft I would have gone with 6105's vs the mp 40's I have now, just because of my experience with the old 6101 "blocks" I have owned being reliable /indestructible.
I went with vortech because I remembered that my old 6101's took more space to get the flow spread I wanted, even with a 6210 suction housing. However if I had the space (bigger tank)they would be perfect
I haven't had any hiccups with my MP40s but I feel if i stopped cleaning my wet sides every 2-3 months, I would probably eventually need to replace them.

An urchin ate a power cord? Holy crap! haha.

I have two smaller tunze powerheads for my tank, and can't complain about them so far, they seem very solid. And really quiet.

I have a 150 Gal 4 x 2 x 2.5. I bought a pair of WAV pumps. So far I like them easy to install and work with the Apex. Having said that they seem pretty powerful. I'm running them under 20% or they blow everything around. I think I could have used only one.

Just got an MP-40, LOVE it, but I can't say that I have any experience with the others so I'm not sure if that helps you a whole lot. I love the design, the new version is much quieter than the older ones, it pushes a ton of water, highly customizable, etc, etc.

I don't know that you'll necessarily regret getting any one of those powerheads though.

Are you sure you have the spacer set correctly?

I have had tunze and now vortechs. I will keep my vortechs. My tunze are on salt mixing duty

Unfortunately yes. I've tried stepping up and down. It only does it at about 35% power and is relatively quiet the rest of the time. My other MP runs quietly for a non-QD model. I'm likely just going to switch to QD's at some point.

Tunze and Vortech would be my choices.
With vortech's being easier to program.

I love my MP40s. You can sync or anti-sync them and get a nice flow pattern within the tank.

I have never used a Tunze or the neptune Wav. I did just get a MP40QD to replace a 1500 GPH korilla opposing my gyre 130. The flow pattern coming off of the 40 is vastly superior to anything else I have used (Gen 2 korilla and maxpect gyre) and at power of 4 out of 12 LED's The flow reaches the other end of the tank. (4 ft 90 gallon)

I will say that the mp40 has a wider flow and great modes. However, at some point you will need to replace wet sides. 2 x $90. ($400+$400+$90+$90). They bagan stalling at low speeds last year and they are about 7-8 years old.

I had a Tunze stream 6100 that lasted 10 years and only needed one impeller replacement @$35. Admittedly the flow was not as wide as the mp40's. ($325+$35).

I recently replaced the mp40's with two Tunze 6095's for $159.00 a piece. The new wide flow is wider, but is no mp40. I am extremely happy with the purchase. That and Roger at Tunze is great. He is very dedicated and helpful, now and in the past. IMO Tunze customer service edges out Ecotech.
