Do new, unused lights go bad?

I want to take advantage of bulk purchasing prices and buy several T5 bulbs and Halides to keep on hand (to be stored in a closet).
Is this a bad idea- do they lose "shelf life" like batteries do?

I dont think so, I have a whole bunch stored away ready for use.

Ive used mh bulbs and vho bulbs that were sitting for 10 years and the par was still as good as a brand new bulb.
