View Full Version : Update after 7 months

I thought I'd give a quick update after 7 months.

Things are going great with my DIY 178 gal SPS reef started with all TBS rock and sand. I have the 60" 8 tube ATI Powermodule LED over my display.

I did have cirolanid isopods early on that took me a couple months to defeat. If I had it to do again, I would keep the tank fallow for 6-8 weeks to be sure they weren't present or died off. I also had gorilla crabs, 1 mantis shrimp and several stone crabs. I still have to catch a couple stone crabs.

That being said, I cannot recommend TBS enough. My aquarium has matured so much in 7 months. My iphone 5 picture doesn't do it justice but coraline algae has taken over.

I have an attached 28 gallon vertical (30" high) refugium that I also used TBS for. The entire system is

I'm actually using the display to age dry rock for a Fluval Spec V build I'm doing for my classroom. It takes 6 weeks or so but white dry rock will age beautifully and quickly.

Cheers and Good Luck,
