Are there any brands of heaters that are more efficient in terms of actual power consumption to heat the same volume of water? Ever manufacture seems to recommend a slight different range of tank sized for their specified wattage but I'm not sure how reliable that is to gauge efficiency

They are all the same, a 300 watt heater is gonna still put 300 watts into the water

An ehiem has more surface are (since they are so long) and has a glad jacket compared to a smaller finnex titanium heater. So I'm not 100% sure which would be more efficient in the end

They are still gonna put out the same wattage so unless you have stagnant water it will heat the same

Sounds good. Thanks :)

Watts is watts. Differing specs is simply a function of varied assumptions. The appropriateness of a heater for a tank is not just a function of the water volume, it's also a function of ambient temperature in the room. Making a different assumption about ambient will lead to a different rating.

A solar hot water heater is pretty efficient.

As noted, almost all of the electricity that's going to a heater is consumed in the heating of the water as they have a very high impedance. They're nearly 100% efficient in that regard.

But if you want to lower your electricity usage, careful insulation of your tank, sump and/or stand, and lowering your tank's evaporation to a minimum will greatly reduce the total power you use in heating the tank.
