I have a 120g DT. It's 4x2x2. I currently have one VorTech MP40wQD and one Hydor Koralia 1500. As you might expect, I'm very happy with the MP40 and not as happy with the Hydor.

I'd like to add another VorTech. Would another MP40 be too much? Or, should I go with an MP10? I do have an extra wet side for the MP40, so it would be kind of nice to be able to use that while soaking a dirty one. Also, would one or the other work better with the various modes/settings?

Thanks!

Bump for some help.

I know that these can be turned down, but I did some searches and found a couple of people stating that they couldn't get two MP40's to work. Course, I also found some people who said that they use three on a tank around that size.

It really depends a lot on what type of coral you are trying to keep and your rockscape. I would say two mp40 would defiantly not be overkill on that size of aquarium. like you said, you can always dial them down if need be.
For a refrence I have 2 gyre 150 and 2 tunze 6105 on a 210g (72"x24"28)

+1. I don't think 2 are overkill. Those who use 3 probably put one on the back wall. Great thing about the MP40 is they can easily upgrade with you, provide exceptional flow, and last a very long time.

I have 2 mp40's and 2 mp10's on my 90g mixed reef. 1 mp40 on each end, and the 2 10's on the back wall. I run them all at or near 100%, mostly reef crest, but have a tidal swell programmed to run once a day with my apex.

I have the same setup. I both 40s on reef crest at 40%.

All - thanks for the responses!

Do you have them on the sides directly across from each other?

Yep.
