Last year I was living in a small loft with a very nice 100+ gallon reef. While out one Sunday night, the sump cracked, emptying all water into my loft and my neighbors. All said, it was a 25k disaster. I sold the loft and moved into an actual house. Apparently I'm a glutton for punishment because I've now begun a 92g corner tank with a 30g sump. Wanted to start a thread so I could see my tank grow. Either that or this thread will stand as evidence for my insurance claim when this one goes to hell [emoji6]

Nice new beginning, I'm really starting to like these corner tanks.

So more about the disaster... why did all the water leak out? No check valve or anything?

Best I can figure, the tank had a slowly forming crank. The sump simply failed, the bottom cracking allowing the water to gush out. No check valve. This was a failure I had never considered possible. I had a syphon running also, a second failure. The cost was exacerbated by it happening at 10pm on a Sunday night. Took a crew of 5 professionals hours to remove water and lost items. I imagine such an event is everyone's worst nightmare. When I got home and opened the door, I stood there frozen for a solid 5min not knowing what to do or where to begin. The only pictures I took of the event...mistakes I'll NEVER repeat againhttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160122/d7066135234d34a014ea7d36550ac9ba.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160122/3789ae4e0003971b268a4f0898256944.jpg

I am a serial killer, but not professional. I dabble. What is life without hobbies?

Went from a 700sqft loft to a nice 2300sqft 3br/2bath house. I LOVE it. FAR less crowded! http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160122/92a16571deb0404cef1836bd9c7e62cc.jpg

I had a 125 gallon display tank crack on the third floor of my apartment ( thank god for USAA renters insurance) but It was my fault I built a DIY canopy/liquor cabinet that weighed too much for the tank to handle it was a bad experience for all of those involved. now I have a 55g that sits on the bottom part of the stand with a 40G sump. that tank will be torn down in march due to a move from California to Michigan. I have just bought a 54G corner tank with stand and canopy that I will be using in my new house I cant wait to see the updates on this system. I posted a picture of my home made stand and canopy on the 125G that ended up breaking the pick if from before the tank was filled. the tank broke during the cycle, I am building supports to hold the canopy 1/8 of an inch above the top of the tank.
