I just learned that Richard Dawkins is a reefer

It's not a bad tank at all. I guess I expected one of the worlds foremost evolutionary biologists to have a lot of really difficult sps, and like three eyed fish experiments swimming around. So it made me feel a bit better about my tank :)

Made me wonder if there are any other celebs with tanks?
I'm assuming Dawkins has some hand in the maintenance, though I guess he could be just paying somebody. I wouldnt count some celeb episode of Tanked where rich people just pay for wet furniture. That's not a reefer.

It would not surprise me one bit if there were a lot of celeb reefers.

While not incredibly famous, Jared and Brandy from Storage Wars were at Reef-A-Palooza in CA this past October haha

Tracey Morgan in Jersey is a big time reefer. ReefGen named a Gorgonian after him as well.

Our own Sk8r is a pretty famous author.

She is a 2-time Hugo Award winner (amongst other awards) and even has an Asteroid named after her.

I ran into the Kansas City Chiefs first round pick Eric Fisher at my LFS. Apparently he's a huge reef guy if that counts.

I have read some of her books. I really liked the faded sun trilogy. Had no idea!

Seriously? Wow. Glad I asked her about damsels earlier because I would never have sent her a message had I known. I always feel like a stalker. That is just way too cool. I probably read too much going through high school but for whatever reason I remember her Chanur series. Now I'm going to have to see if I can find them and re-read!

Why is it that the really smart people are gifted in many areas?
I has no idea who she was but it explains the clarity and relevance of her posts.

Not sure about celebrity reefers but sometimes I'll spot reefs in the visual media.

I remember seeing reef tanks and bonsai trees (my other hobby) aboard the starship USS Enterprise on Startrek Next Generation. But I doubt Picard gave a damn and Jordie probably found it pointless. Data probably didn't fully understand the attraction. I think Counselor Troy probably was the reef aficionado, but apparently her considerable skills as an empath didn't extend to invertebrates without nervous systems.

As I recall the aquascapes were of the dead white coral variety. Maybe they were still having trouble dialing in their LEDs in the 25th (?) century or having issues with stable alkalinity.

Spock Out.

They probably found their setup in a storage unit!

Phil Dalhausser - Olympic Gold medalist in beach volleyball. I saw him at a local frag swap one time. He's kind of hard to miss. He's 6'8"

Ah, but are they Corinthian leather? (no idea what it is; always sounded good when Khan said it though)

Dawkins is one of my heroes. His keeping a reef tank made my day. Thanks!

Thats sweet :)
I used to look up to him a lot, but honestly not anymore. Without getting too political, I'd say that like a lot of people who are really smart about one thing and get famous, he's gotten the notion that this makes him an expert on everything. Just like I don't much care who Katy Perry is voting for in the elections, Dawkins would be better served if he shut up about feminism and other politics that haven't much to do with his area of expertise.

But I'm not sure I'd fare any better lol, if I had as many people as he asking my opinions and calling me smart, I'm sure I'd get exhaustingly arrogant as well. Lucky for me, getting called smart all the time's not a cross I have to bear ;)

There was a build thread on here some years ago that was done for John Cena at his house in FL.

EDIT: Here it is http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1486287&highlight=cena
