I have been going online and researching media reactors I have had the tank for 1 year as fish only but before I get into corals I have been trying to teach myself to keep my water at optimum parameters at all time so I am going to be receiving my Aqua top MR-20 multi media reactor tonight and will be adding it to my system. it go me to thinking what reactor does everyone use and has anyone tried the one I have ordered? also for reef keeping what would be better to use until I get another reactor carbon or GFO?

Quick review on this reactor the flow rate for the GFO is not Ideal the flow valve on the pump sticks and does not operate very smooth I am going to run the GFO for a month and then try some CARBON so I can up the flow and let the pump run with a high output. I will post some pictures of the reactor tonight maybe I have it set up wrong.

I have never used a media reactor but when I have it running GFO I read that It is not supposed to "tumble" in order for my GFO to not tumble I have to turn the flow down all of the way so it may be pumping 1 to 5 GPH how does everyone run their reactor with GFO so it doesn't tumble but I can get more flow out of it. Pictures of a reactor running GFO would be helpful. thank you in advance!

When running GFO by itself it is suppose to tumble or it will clump together.

I upped the flow on the reactor its still not putting out much flow but the GFO is tumbling. I am not very happy with this reactor so far it feels like it needs 4 days to turn my system over 1 time.

Even if you are only getting 25-30 GPH you are turning over your water volume many times over in the day. The media gets used up over time, it is still going to pull out the same amount of PO4, just not all at once (and once you have coral that is a good thing).

If you actually want to measure it put your effulent line in a gallon container and time it, 2-3 minutes for the gallon is 30 - 20 GPH.

that's a great idea I will take a look at that tonight and give it a shot! thank you!

Gfo is only supposed to look like a Slight boiling @ the top of the media, not vigorous at
all, or the media has a tendency to break up.

There is the manual, in the future you can find most any manual online my typing the manufacturer, product name, and the word manual in a google search. It was the second search result.
