I am back to using metal halide bulbs, due to the fact that I already have the equipment. Anyhow, I am using my 2x250w 14k bulb w/4x true atinic t5s. I have a standard 40b tank (17" high), keeping a mixed reef. My question is how high above the tank should the halides be, and should the t5s be at a lower height than the halides?

Any idea what they are putting out? What kind of bulbs are they (make, DE/SE?)? And what are you trying to grow?

No idea what they are putting out. I don't have access to a par reader. These are new (less than a month) de 14k halides. The t5's are brand new (about a week), 39w. My fixture is a diy canopy, and I'm currently have the lamps 15" above the water line. I have softies and lps currently, and I'm going to buy some sps frags shortly (great deals up here from fellow reefers).

I'd leave them where they are. Put your sticks up top and everything else should be fine.

Thanks toothybugs.
Now I know they are not as popular as LEDs, but is there anymore insight?
