Came across a good deal on ORA H. Erectus. Five were available and I had to take at least one :D.

Looks like a young male. How did you resist getting at least a pair? Of course I would have taken all five but that's just me. :twitch:

Well I already have a mated pair so this is my 3rd Erectus. Yeah I wanted them all but I'm in the middle of shuffling fish tanks right now. Currently transfering everything from my old main display to a 230g system and my old reef tank will become a upgrade itself for my seahorses. Then more ponies it is! and hopefully fry soon from the original pair.

Are you ready for fry? Set up and feeding good to go? Fry proofed your filters etc.?

Yeah I got everything needed. Wife is willing to help when I'm on 12 hour shifts too luckily.

Here is a new picture of the first one. Lightened in color a bit and seems to be doing great.

Dark colors usually are a sign of stress (not always). He will be changing colors when he see the new girl horse. :-)

So that picture was taken on 02/03/2016... This picture was taken 02/23/16:

The horse on the left of that picture is the same one from the first picture. Amazing how quickly they can grow and how the pouch can change so fast. 20 day difference in picture age..

He is carrying eggs.

Possibly. However both the males inflate their pouch, tuck their heads against their chests, snouts change colors, bodies turn another color, and chase after the female. They are both interested in the same female though and don't seem to be trying to impress the smaller female. Later on their stomachs will go down a bit. Its unclear if either male is holding eggs or just trying to compete for the larger female. I'm almost done playing musical shuffle with fish tanks so hopefully they don't give me fry for at least another month+ or I won't even be able to try to raise them.

Your male really did mature a lot in that short amount of time! He sure looks pregnant but it can be difficult to tell sometimes, especially when they are trying to impress a female, ha ha!

The males inflate their pouch to show females they are ready to receive eggs. If he is not around the female and his pouch looks like this then he is preggers. The inflated pouch shows the female two things; one his pouch is empty and two look how big I am.

If he starts to hitch more and becomes reclusive he is pregnant for sure.
