This is my last piece of current equipment to get running. Tank is a reefer 450. Tank is 92g system is 118g. Purchased brand new 25w Aqua uv with wiper. It will be a reef tank and I will be keeping a Handful of fish, one being a tang. What is the recommended flow rate you experienced guys would use? I was thinking of getting the BRS dual reactor for gfo and carbon which uses a 300gph pump. I was thinking of running it in line before the reactors. What flow rate do you guys think? The 900-1200 gosh on aquas site can't be right?!? Thank you RC members in advance for any and all help with getting this tank up and running

When I looked up your 25w Aqua UV sterilizer online. It said 400 gph flow through it for saltwater use. I'm not sure where you are coming up with your figures 900-1200.

The slower the flow rate the more time UV has a chance to kill bad stuff. So running your UV inline with GFO reactor should be fine. Slower flow rate through UV isn't a bad thing .... but too fast a flow rate through UV doesn't allow the UV rays enough time to kill things.

If you look at the lower part of the page it gives you the reef recommendations. They are 800-1200gph. Anyone else that can help shed some light on this. I'd like to hook the uv up

I have to go with yacn here on this one....it says 400 gph and it can sterilize 1200 gallons of fresh water or 150 gallons of saltwater.

Anyway.... The ideal here is to have contact time on the sterilizer. Too much flow through it is not going to be very productive.

Pick up an eheim or similar pump. To get to the target flow, put a ball valve on the outlet of the pump or sterilizer to restrict it down if the pump flow is more than you need.

try an eheim compact pump, they have ones that is as slow as 90 gph.

Slower flow rate is better for uv. Too fast of flow renders the uv useless. Mind as well not use it.
