Does anyone have any experience with using a heater such as this one in an aquarium?

They are small and compact and could easily be plumbed via bulkhead into the side of a sump. It can be wired to be plugged into an Apex outlet.

I've been trying to hide a large glass heater in my sump and I'm waiting for the day it just shatters. Wouldn't have to worry about that with this one!

What do you all think?

Why not a Finnex Titanium on your apex.
That's what I have.

It will probably work but you can get an 800 watt finnex for $50 which is made for aquariums. I don't think for triple the price it's worth the experiment.

I've had Finnex titanium heaters in the past and have had 2 of the 3 burst. I guess I was looking for something industrial grade that may be a bit more robust. Just a thought...

I would also go with a Ti heater. Even 316 is going to corrode eventually, I do not know what it may release.

EDIT: I was writing when you posted that. How did they break? Is this a common thing, I have only heard of the plastic cased ones popping?

In my case, the two that failed for me ended up bursting lengthwise. It appeared that they may have gotten moisture inside and corroding from the inside out.

I wasn't going to take a chance with the third so I removed it before it failed. I'm current using an Eheim Jager and an Aqueon. Both seem to work fine, but are long enough they sit crossways in my sump chamber and take up a lot of room. I'd like to go with something smaller such as a couple of the newly designed Finnex tube heaters and hope they are better than the last couple I had.

I thought maybe spending the money on something industrial strength would be an option, but maybe that isn't an option either.

I'll keep looking...

It's going in salt water and the description say for Moderately Corrosive Liquids. And $135 that's madness lol.

I have never seen or heard of the finnex titanium heaters explodeing till now, i still cant see how they could. You have an pics?

With that said i run them in my tank with a ranco and am very happy with them.

Do not use 316 stainless in your tank. They will eventually corrode.

Yeah I have used the finnex for years without serious issue. Occasionally they fail but it isn't a failing of the exterior as far as I could ever tell.
