I am looking to replace the pump on my sca 301 skimmer after finding out that the atman pump consumes 28watts.

since the sca 301 is a copy of a bubble magus nac 3.5, does the pump from the nac fits the 301 without modifications?

Let me know what you find and I'll do the same. I have the same skimmer.

The new rock sp pumps will likely fit without any modification as they are simply placed under the skimmer.

You can also look at the Sicce SK200. Sea Side Aquatics has the CS3.5 that uses that pump. Their skimmer is similar to the SCA 301 and Bubble Magus NAC3.5. The Sea Side Aquatics parts store sells the SK200 pump as well as the appropriate venturi piece that fits on the pump's intake.

I was also looking at this option a while back, but never did it as I broke down that tank and sold the skimmer. I'm not positive it will work, but based on the fact that all three skimmers are basically clones of each other, I don't see why it wouldn't.

Looking @ the specs on the SK200. It looks like it'll work. I'm gonna order it tomorrow and keep you all posted

SK 200. WILL NOT fit without modification. You will require a uniseal which requires drilling out the bottom of the skimmer. If you get suction cup mounts for the pump (not easy to find but seaside aquatics supplied them to me) you will also need to remove the skimmer legs and extend them.

SkullV, have you done this mod?

Yes I have. I have a couple photos as well. I honestly don't think the skimmer Body of the SCA301 was large enough for the air draw of the SK200. I have the same pump in my SSA ES5 and it is significantly better matched to that skimmer body.

In the photos below you can see that I also had to make a riser platform to keep this pump from overflowing the body. The Atman pump by comparison sat directly on the bottom and the wedge valve was turned to approximately 3.5.

Which one do you think would work?

Rock SP1000, but I can't be 1000% sure on fitment. I know that the output of the Atman 1100 will not screw into the output of the SP1000 so the hole in the base of the skimmer would have to be the same.

So basically enlarge the hole @ bottom of skimmer?

Not sure. You will have to determine that when the new pump arrives. I believe the output of the sp1000 is the same as the sk200 though so you will likely have to use the uniseal. I'm not sure about the height of the base though.

Had a death in the family today and heading out of town. I'll order it when I get back. We already know your mods work on the SK200. So it'll be interesting to see what needs done with this pump

Good luck! If I were you, I would look into finding a used Bubble Magus Curve 5 or Seaside Aquatics ES5 to replace your skimmer with all together. There is a BMC5 on my local forum for $75 right now and an ES5 for $120. Not much more than the pump itself and a significantly more balanced skimmer. Keep in mind also that you will need to purchase the appropriate venturi for whatever pump you choose. The venturi for the Atmann does not fit.
