So I'm gonna go reef instead of planted on a tiny ada mini m nano cube 30x30x30cm. I would love some ideas on what to use to light it. I'm looking for small, sleek, and controllable. I can go arduino but I'm lazy. Ideas please.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160210/5e70d68b13825d56ae73f58a3d5eba1f.jpg

What exactly is your budget? A 160 would do well and they're $239 new. I can't think of anything much less expensive than that.

I was thinking around $100. The controller can be bought later. Or axe the controller entirely and put a timer on it. It's so small I think an led bulb would be sufficient as long as I buy a light fixture that looks good.

Par38 would work I just don't know what would grow well for saltwater.

Honestly, its going to be hard with a $100 budget.

Well this just quickly turned into a fun little project. I went to batteries plus bulbs in salt lake, and low and behold on the clearance shelf was 5 dollar 54w par38 bulbs 5000k daylight. Useless 5000k I know. However I have a reel of cree xpe royal blues and another of xpe 10,000k
The forward voltage is printed 1.2 on the board same as the royals not sure on the 10,000k but I have 6 spots I'm gonna do 2 royals and 4 10k bake it in the oven and see if we can start a fire with this bulb. I will update

I might even throw in a small pwm dimmer maybe put a knob on the side. The PCB setup on the bulb runs two sections, could probably run two nobs one for white one for blue.

Well so far I've got seriously angry at my oven trying to reflow LEDs progress.

Well it worked. I have 1 5000k, two 10,000k 3w and two xp-e royal blues. It's quite bright. All for 5 bucks. I will have to get my par meter back from my buddy and see what we get. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160211/605e6debc82fdf3466266c00dc0004aa.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160211/02cdf9165736d76fac688623dbb03a1a.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160211/b90426212803da03ffd109c41e856242.jpg

Alot of green off that 5000k but it looks nice.
