So I am looking to upgrade some things and am looking at the Vertex Omega 150. it has a little bit smaller footprint and will fit better in my new sump design. I currently have a Euro-Reef rs135 and it is working well enough. Will I notice any difference in skimming? Do any of you use this skimmer?
thanks
That euro reef is a very balanced skimmer. I ran one of those for a while. The sedra pumps are old school and loud but it worked well for me. The vertex imo is an unbalanced finicky unit. There's better choices out there.

what unit would you recommend at this point? i do not want to sacrifice quality especially if I am looking for an upgrade. i have a 90 gallon display and a 40 breeder sump. Tank at this point is lightly stocked and about the start add more fish and hope to get some SPS in there.

Vertex skimmers are finicky when setup incorrectly. They require a constant water level so if your sump design allows for a deviation in that then you should look elsewhere. They are not forgiving in this regard. They make up it for it though by being built like absolute tanks. Once I figured this out with my Omega 130, I haven't had to touch it in months. Pulls out some truly filthy sludge that looks like crude oil.
At this point you should go for the 180i instead of the 150. Smaller footprint.

Not sure if you can purchace from the Used section here but there was a real nice Bubble King 160 perfect match for a 90 gallon tank sub 500 not sure if it was 450 or in the 3 range.

I have been pretty pleased with my 180i on my 90 gallon. Once set it does a pretty good job. I am stocked on the heavy side for fish and it is a beast of a skimmer.

For your stocking level, I recommend the Vertex Omega 150.
I'm using a Vertex Omega 130 and I'm about to upgrade to a 150 in a a larger tank. Once it's dialed in the skimmer is great. A stable water level is needed.

I have no experience with the Euro-Reef, but I love my Vertex 150 on my 90g. It pulls stuff consistently out of the tank.

If you guys only knew how much goes into their products you too would be amazed. I was so impressed I am going with their sump and skimmer on my tank build. Lots of products out there are nice. Vertex is borderline perfect. Wait till you see some of the products that they have in the pipeline!

thank for all the responses on thisVertex 180i would be my choice. Reason over the BK... If the pump has an issue on the BK, that is some serious coin. Also a new Vertex 180i would have a warranty. Build quality is a coin toss IMO.

BK is used @$450 and I have pictures of it put in for a few hours today and pulling gunk out already. 180i specs seem to much for my build with 90 display and stocked lightly at this point.

Both skimmers are within the range that you require. There is no standard of rating skimmers so it's all a guess.

I'm not against the BK. Just that in this situation I would choose the new Vertex over the used BK. Also I would bet that the 180i will outperform the BK 160 since it pulls a lot more air.

lmao perfect. the only concern i have is not being able to dial the vertex down so much to handle a 90 lightly stocked and it will not perform as it should.
