what's the difference if he just made his third dorso pipe cut open like the other two?

U wouldn't be able to attach the airline to it so u would end up with two siphons & it would be very difficult to get it tuned in.

what's wrong with a syphon isn't that what we want to get the water down to the sump?

The Bean Animal is one drain method, Durso is another type.

A Bean Animal uses 3 pipes, 1 Siphon drain that is tuned with a valve to only allow a trickle of water thru the secondary "trickle" drain. The 3rd pipe is a normally dry emergency drain.

You only set up one pipe for a siphon.

The Durso, by having the opening pointed down, doesn't allow the trickle sound to make its way out of the pipe and therefore you don't hear it. If you set up a BeanAnimal so the trickle line is open on top, you might hear it where as it would be silent if the Durso was used.

yeah that's what i thought but why would that person in the picture make the first two drains none dorso then make the last highest drain (emergency) a dorso drain?

I'm not sure it's set up right but it does look like the emergency is high enough to put water down the Durso. It looks like the external box should have been taller.
