Here's a shot of my tank as of yesterday. Notice all the coralline growing up the sides. I always clean it off the front of the DT, but is ever necessary to clean of the back walls?

I really liked it when my back glass was spotless, but keeping it this way was a PITA IME. Now I just leave it alone. Any untouched panel will actually function as a biological filter, plus it might provide food for specific creatures such as bristle tooth tangs, sea urchins etc. Aesthetics aside, there's definitely a plus side to it. My tank is viewable from both sides, but I leave the ends untouched and let it overgrow with coraline. When my old tank was against a wall, I didnt' touch the back wall. I like the look of it and like cloak said...it acts as more filtration.

I never have. I keep the front and sides clean but I let the back go. I like the look and as was said earlier, its a real pita to keep it clear.

I actually prefer a clean back, it give the tank more depth. That being said, I have a 84"X72" panel 4" from a wall, the back can stay purple.

it's purely a matter of personal taste. it's not 'necessary' to either scrape off, or grow coralline, for that matter.

scrape away wherever it bugs you :D

You can scrape the back of the tank? Whod'a thunk it possible.

(that would be a no for me btw)

I keep mine clean as much as possible. I like the look! I do have access to the back of my tank so it is very easy for me.

I like having a clean back pane, mine is black, and only gets scraped once every 2 months. I like the depth of view you get from it.

I spent money for a black panel in front of the coast to coast overflow on the back of my tank. I like to see it clean because it adds depth to the tank. I'm looking at it right now and it looks like I'm on a night dive with a blue light. Why anyone would dive with a blue light is beyond me. Looks cool though.
