Building a canopy this weekend for my 5ft 150gal , want to add two t5 retrofits to my exsisting (hanging)two Ap 700's but wife and family are already complaining about light spillage into family room :deadhorse1: so need some inspiration/simple designs to get this project moving.. T5 retrofit's/bulbs and AP canopy kit arrive tonight!!

The lights themselves are mounted on strut attached to the back of the cabinet and then I used heavy duty drawer guides so the lights slide back and forth for maintenance. I have the lights set on a 15 degree angle and moved them close to the fronf of the tank. This makes the coral grow towards the front of the aquarium so you get a semi-top-down view of the coral as it grows out.

I got it from Lowe's. It's called a Piano Hing. It's like 4 feet long or something like that. Works just fine.

Since you are looking for simple I'll show one of my older ones, pretty basic, may fit your needs.
Blocks light spill but has open top so it breathes, though it could be enclosed if you wish.

IMO...canopy's that sit on the tank rim look so 60's. Floating canopy's look much nicer in most homes. Might want to do a search for the many examples here on RC.

Love the way the non-canopy hanging system looks, hate the light spill over.

Just finished my 3rd coat of poly. Hoping to get some time soon to Polish it out to a glass finish

I made this canopy to add T5's to my Radion. Corals are responding well and I have no shadowing. It cost me about $200 and it matches the stand I made. Keeps the wife happy.

Here's a canopy I built for my 75.
It's all standard Home Depot pine within Java Gel Stain.
The front and top panels are completely removable held in place with a magnet.
My Hydra 26 fixtures are on 1/2" aluminum rails using brackets I designed and printed on a 3D printer. I'll have the ability to add T5 retro fixtures to more aluminum rails if I want.

Here is mine. I couldn't decide between cabinet doors or a flip open style so I incorporated both. Works great and I have a Photon led light hanging from some SS hardware inside.

This is what I did for my 360. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200407/54565da0fbc881f9babc978ea32b7ab5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200407/ce442e51a70927ab589ac331d1d8db63.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200407/c542b1bb951b63930900f92464c3e8d5.jpg
