I’m planning out a new 120g. DT will have about 120# of BRS rock and about an inch of CaribSea Special Grade sand. There will be a 40B basement sump and I’m thinking a 20g fuge with DSB and macro. However if the Mandarin’s not going to work due to the Fairy Wrasses, I’ll probably go BB and possibly just use a turf scrubber over the sump instead of a separate fuge tank. My understand is Cirrhilabrus genus wrasses are more water column feeders and don't as frequently pick at rockwork for pods?

In general, fish are listed in order of must-have down to nice-to-have:

Red Head Solon Wrasse
Exquisite Wrasse
Lubbock's Wrasse
Kole Tang
Green Mandarin
Flame Hawkfish
Ocellaris Clowns (2)
Green Chromis
Yellowtail Damsel
Yellow Tang
Royal Gramma

thanks...

I think that's an ok group. Two tangs could pose a problem. I would add the gramma first. Damsel and Tangs much later. Tangs maybe at the same time, or just pick one. And the mandarin much much much later. At least a year or two later unless you have a refugium to grow pods.

OK great thanks. Had a yellow tang in a previous 75g... loved the splash of yellow color but he paced a lot which I wasn't crazy about.

I would not suggest doing 2 tangs in there. I got rid of my Yellow Tang as he became more aggressive as he got bigger. IMO, Yellow Tangs need 5ft tank or longer. You have to make sure you have a good stable pod population for the Mandarin which usually means introducing it when the tank is fully mature. On that note, it might have a problem with Flame Hawkfish which can be aggressive to newcomers equal/smaller in size. I have the same tank and here is a list of my livestock to give you an idea.

Bluespotted Angel
Mimic Tang
Orange Back Wrasse
Yellow Wrasse
Melanurus Wrasse
Flame Hawkfish
Coral Beauty
Lawnmower Blenny
2x Clownfish

Thanks scooter. I've removed the yellow tang from the list and will replace it with a Midas Blenny for the splash of yellow I'm after.

Once the system goes live and is stable I plan to seed the tank with pods, then wait around 9-12 mo for their populations to take hold. At that point I'll add the Mandarin, then probably the Hawk and Kole last.

I would be careful with Clowns, Chromis, and Damsel. They are from the Damsel family, so possibility of some tension between them. IMO, I would drop the Damsel, they are more trouble than they are worth.
