I'm picking up my new tank tomorrow. The tank is a 40 gallon breeder that has been eurobraced, it comes with a stand and 20 gallon sump. My question is should I worry about the take exploding? If you look at the pictures it's just the front and back that stretch side to side for the brace. Should I add a strip on each side that goes front to back and inset it underneath the top bracing? so I will be getting a hold on the front back and left/ front back and right on each side? Then maybe add a center brace the same way?

I would, was a standard 40 breeder w a rim at one time, dont think a center brace would be necessary if you add the 2 side strips

Ok I just wanted to be sure if I do the size strips the same width as the front and back strips It should be plenty? almost better then just the plastic trim if my calculations are correct.

Doing the calculator from garf it says have a 2" brace side to side and 2" brace front to back both sides. I just want to be sure this will be fine. I was trying to find some other calculators to test the safety factor.

Would adding a wood canopy that was 4 sided and wrapped around the tank be enough to act as a support like the plastic trim?

There are tone of rimless tanks about this size. You probably do not need any additional bracing. What are the dimensions of the tank?

A wooden canopy would have to be very snug to provide the tank with any bracing. You wouldn't be able to remove it.
