View Full Version : Help me design a new return
I'm looking for pics and ideas. With my new tank I'm getting tomorrow I wanted to do more with the return than just simply a 3/4" lock line nozzle sticking in it.
Hit me.

Goals? Desired flow? Type of tank?

How about using a Sea Swirl, once you have had one you will never have a reef tank without one again.

I looked at those years and years ago and figured they would get cheaper, but 200 bucks for those is a little absurd and it doesn't look like they are going to get cheaper any time soon.
It's going to go on a 75g. My thought was to make a full PVC spray bar all the way around the rim. I don't want a single push of water from one location. My goal in this is for maximizing return water distribution and offering some small amount of chaotic flow.

If those are your goals then a sea swirl is more effective. The sea swirl as it rotates interacts with the various flow from your powerheads and creates awesome random flow. They really are worth it.
I know of a 2500g anemone/clown tank that only uses a pair of 1.5" sea swirls and has totally random flow through the entire tank.

I've been using a scwd, the larger one, for a few years. Works great and basically maintenance free. I cleaned once a few months ago took just a minute or two.

-I use a tank mixing venturi eductor. 1/2in on my 60 gal. Cost conversion nearly to 4$. It does not create a randomized flow. Creates a lot of movement in the tank. By the way here is what it looks like.https://www.google.co.in/search?q=tank+mixing+eductors&client=ms-android-motorola&prmd=ivsn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjBnuCK1bfLAhWBkI4KHV-CAIsQ_AUIBygB&biw=360&bih=512#imgrc=wCRMM7ii1AzhuM%3A
