Hey fellow reefers
I have a spectrapure 4 stage ro/di unit to which I added an extra chloramine Carbon block since my water district adds chloramines and I killed quite a few corals before figuring it out.

How do I know when it gets used up and it is time to change ? Thanks !

You can test for traces of ammonia, Chlorine or Chloramines making it thru the filter. Thru trial and error, you should eventually get an idea of when to change them before they get spent. When I think mine are about ready, I will either go ahead and change them out or test the product water before using it.

Do you have a pressure gauge on your unit? The easiest way to tell is when you get a pressure drop on a pressure gauge attached to the unit.

Let's back up a little here...

What's mentioned above is how you tell if the filter is CLOGGED, not exhausted.

Testing the effluent for free chlorine and total chlorine is how you'd do it.
