Ordered today, should arrive the 11th. Was interested when i saw these a month ago, and today my taotronic 165w blue side burnt out. So i figured was time to give them another look and see if there were any reviews.

Anyone else have these lights? If no one comments i will do a review after.
at 145 with shipping from US it seemed worth a try.

I've used them. The one thing I didn't like is you don't get a full channel of blues. You have blue red and green on the same channel. Then you have a full bank of whites on the other channel. If you like a 10k look you will most likely love the light. The shimmer is on par with a Kessil so it shines in that department. I like more of a 20k look though so I had to ditch them.

I though since it was WiFi control you could make it specific coloring. Did you have the Wi-Fi? Did you par pur by any chance?

No I had the original version without wifi, it was dimmable though. Never ran a par meter. Hopefully the new version will achieve a more 14-20k look. I think the light would be perfect if you switched the blues and the whites. For some reason the Chinese like their tanks more on the 10k side.

couldnt agree more with the white tanks, i think it is because they all think freshwater. I look forward to testing it for you and others. i havent had the guy in that video reply yet.

I have 3 and having the 3 separate blues is quite nice for when the cob leds are off. they are a little on the white side but the shimmer is excellent.

Do you have any more details or a tank shot. do you have any growth stories or algae break out issues. Are yours WIFI.

yes they are WIFI the only thing I don't like is you have to program them each individually. One tip I can give you is to make sure when you set your program is to make sure you have one of your time settings at 0:00 for some reason the program isn't the greatest and that kind of resets it each day. If you don't do that they may randomly turn on in the middle of the night.347215

Let me start with im a grandpa with technology. So sometimes i get overly frustrated. I got my unit today. Very slim sleek looking unit. only 1 plug and two switches. No dings or dents.

Hook up wireless time. My phone, LGv10 had a fit connecting. Spent 30 minutes in frustration. My Nvidia andriod tablet, done, in 2 seconds. So meh, not sure what it was about but will take the Win.

The white over blue factor. If you turn the white on over 30% its stupid white, 100% is just way too much. So my white hits 50% at peak and only for a bit. Setting the day schedule out was simple, i picked a template and edited it. I have a box of acros on the way which i will throw some under this and see how they do.

All in all for 145$ these are an upgrade to my old black boxes that have started to fall apart.

Had these about a week, and i still stand by the fact that i dont like how white they are. Even on full blue they are still more white than my 165w blackbox on full blue. So side by side i can really see the comparison. I am on the hunt for a par meter, i ordered fish and corals instead so will have to wait or try to borrow one. that would be interesting to find out. The fact remains, just like the vast majority of led lights, white is down low, blues are higher. This is even worse ratio than my black box that is 3 years old.

The good news is that i will have some corals and clams under these come tomorrow, and then i can see how they like it, because if they are happy and growing i am happy.

After seeing these i think i will wait for the black box V2 that has to be coming sometime soon to replace additional units.

Little backstory. Chinese blackboxes hit the market and almost everyone was skeptical to buy a light fixture without a warranty or reviews. This was a few years ago so my exact details may be off but others are welcome to counter my view. So i bought the black boxes from china back in 2011 and wrote some reviews and fried some corals. At some point reefbreeders began to sell these lights.

People were relieved they could get a product shipped from USA with good customer service and warranty. At some point they tweaked the design, they added a remote control option, and then added a wifi option.

Now Reefbreeder has just released a version 2.

IMO Reefbreeders lights are a made in china product that is directly adjusted to reviews and wants of the hobbyist based on the origional black box.

As far as buying direct from china still, you can on ebay amazon and alibaba. While the direct sellers from china have tweaked the product they have not gone and re worked it completely yet or put much attention into what the consumer would like to see.

My guess is they are waiting to mimik or copy someone else doing something better and we will get a black box version 2.

more 120w optics, 5w leds, and more color channels is what i am looking for without paying the premium of the middleman. I took a risk on these and will continue to test them but i wish they were more blue, at 145 my downfall is marginalized. They still work great and time will see if my corals and fish love them.

Black box v2 who makes them?

In a sense "who" makes them is not quite as important as what is inside.
The Reefbreeders Photon drivers were not "bricks" placed inside a housing.

So a bigger question is how "different" are the parts..

Just wondering if these lights would support a bubble tip anemone. Thanks!

light is being used to grow sps. its still too white for me, but my sps has healed over from where i fragged it with this light. So if the corals like it, its good for me. I wont buy another one but i wont take it offline either.
