I went on a 1 day vacation and my Moorish idol was skinny to the point you could see bones.

Prior to the vacation, he wasn't fat but he was average weight.
After 1 day of feeding, he is better but not normal yet.

Is this normal or do you think he has internal parasites?

As far as I'm concerned ALL new fish have parasites and should be treated with 2 rounds of Prazipro. Its totally reef safe so you can treat your DT.

+1^ I would treat with PP, if fish don't noticeably get "thick" the fish has internal worms

I got him around 2 weeks ago. See "Kenyan idol" thread.

He went through 3 tank transfers (was unable to do 4th transfer due to work) and 3 formalin dips.

He came in skinny. I slowly fattened him up. He had decent weight prior to my vacation. Then when I came back he was skinny again. Currently he is slowly gaining weight again.

He is really picky so I don't want to give him medicated food unless absolutely necessary.

He looks good, no ich, brook etc except for a spec of lympho on his tail.

Thinking about redoing the tank transfer and feeding medicated food after he gains some weight and becomes less picky.

I thought that formalin dips would have taken care of flukes. Should he still be treated with prazi? He never showed signs of fluke and nothing came off during formalin dips.

I'm leaning towards high metabolism or intestinal flagellate which would be treated with metro.

So plan is to redo tank transfer with metro soaked food and then fenbendazole soaked food for worm prevention.

Any other suggestions?

Flukes are external, the worms I'm talking about live inside the fish. Formalin won't do anything for internals. Metro will treat anything that is going on internally (or should). I would not do the TTM again, if you did it right the first time, doing it again won't accomplish anything

I missed snorvich's recommendations of 4 transfers (3 transfers only completed)

But there is no signs of ich so I will wait and see.

OK feeding medicated food has made him refuse food. He is getting really skinny.

Its seems like Maldives Moorish idol are a no go as they come in skinny. Possibly cyanide caught.

Currently available Moorish idols are MAC certified Fiji, and Maldives

Happy to hear your MI is eating like a pig.Mine too. He(or she)has doubled in size in 5 months.I wish I had more space, but a 220 was the most space, I am willing to have,in the house.I hope it is full grown. It eats more than my cats...

Very nice video Big .Mama
The one I have is the same size as that, now.Mine is not as polite as the one in the video and he would have had that digested in the first 13 seconds.

I use to hang a frozen chunk from a feeder clip but my snowflake eel has figured it out and now attacks the clip. I thaw it out now and feed with a turkey baster. everyone gets there fair share now.
