Do I have to have a reeflink to upgrade the firmware on my mp40qd?

No you do not need a ReefLink to firmware update your controller, just another QD controller with newer firmware. That said, you will need a ReefLink if you want to control your pump via ESL.

So I got to dis-mount the wet side, take it some where that has an updated firmware wetside, then follow instructions to update?

Secondary question then on controlling MP via reeflink - Can I create a custom flow chart for it, like the radions or am I still locked into using the predefined flow programs?

I would like to make the MP40 flow differently at different parts of the day and in different levels..etc..
