Hey everyone,

My trumpet coral, which typically had been my best looking and fasting growing coral, recently began looking pretty rough. Parameters are as follows:

Ca:410
Alk:8.6
Mag 1375
Phos: 0.1
Nitrates 3-5

I recently had a chalice almost die when I had a nitrate spike, so that could be it.

But I also moved my toadstool a little while back and the trumpet is now like 5" away and downstream of the leather. There is no way they are actually touching, but could the leather be putting out a toxin that is poisoning the trumpet? Tank is a 155 and I run BRS carbon in a reactor.

I see that you're running carbon, but how much and how long has it been in there Carbon helps with the chemical warfare that is going on with the leather.

I run about a cup of carbon and change it monthly in my 40b

Thanks, I run the recommended dose according to BRS website and change it every six weeks or so.

Talked to my favorite LFS guy today, He said it's uncommon but not impossible. I moved the leather.
