Hi and thank you for your input...

years ago i had a 50gal LPS/LR/Fish tank and i remember the sand bed being full of life.

today I have a 180gal SPS/LPS/LR/Fish and it seems to me that the sand bed is devoid of life. i don't see "things" crawling, i don't see worms, etc. i guess it could be the fish/shrimp eating things but i would have thought that after 2yrs i would see more life in the sand.

any suggestions on how to increase the life in the sanded??

Hey mathman,
I'm no expert but an LPS tank is usually more nutrient rich providing algae and bacteria for the microfauna. With SPS, there is far less nutrients so the microfauna die off over time. They cannabilize on each other.
You could dose a little phyto (not sure of affect on corals) to feed the microfauna through the food chain and then add a little variety from a pest free established tank.
