Hey folks, I am hearing some conflicting info so I figured I would ask here...How many Lumia 5.2 is sufficient for a 72x24x24 tank (180g) that I intend to have SPS?.

They're designed to cover 24x24, so 3 would be bare minimum. You may want to go with 4 if you use lenses and/or have them mounted high.

I planned 6....and then people telling me I need 12...that seems excessive to me

I would call up/talk to led group buy and they can tell you everything you know. :-)

Yeah they recommend 2 Lumia per 24", so looks like I was right on

2 per 24" wow. thats double what the page says. But, if thats what they say, I'd follow it.

It depends on what your doing. Apparently they are more like 16"x16" than 24x24 when it comes to higher light animals. to break 100 par at the sandbed with 36" above the bottom (24" deep + 12" above water level), you have to have some overlap in light, so its more like 2 Lumia per 24" square to get the intensity required.

good to know! I may someday get to build my 40B/40B setup I've been planning off and on for years now. Was looking at the lumia's so this is good info. :-)

I ran 2 lumia 5.2 over a custom 150g (48x30x24)... kept sps on the sandbed. Blue/violet channels at 100%, white channel at 40%.

I originally started with a diy hybrid tek t5 that I build because I thought I would need the added light output. Dropped 4 of the 6 t5's off after a month, and then no t5's after 2 months and just run the leds.

You will be fine with 3 of the 5.2, and proper rock scaping if you want some pieces in higher light conditions.

I'll post a pic of my 150 in a little bit
