Hi All,

Apologies for all the diatom bloom threads. It dawned on me today that I never posted a photo so have no verification that's what it is. Please see pic below. Is this a diatom bloom?

Thanks,

Yup, looks like diatoms to me. Increase some flow on the sandbed, and that should clear it up.

Even with a brand new tank with 100% new dry rock, and new sand, I've never had diatoms that bad.

I really don't get it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Ive followed all instructions and its not getting better. I have a Gyre XF130 and I think the flow is pretty good but I will up it more. Thx.

Just on the sand itself not through the entire tank. Place a powerhead on the side of your tank and blow the flow across the sand. Usually once the clear up, they don't come back unless your watr parameters are out of wack.

Gotcha. Ok, I'll give that a try. Thanks for the ongoing assistance.

No problem. I've always been under the assumption that if its something I learned and can pass it on, then by all means share the info.
