Hello All,
I'm fairly new to the saltwater world and recently had the opportunity to purchase a 240 gallon acrylic tank. during the past few months, I have been searching and it seems as if all forums start out with one question and either get diverted to another discussion or they just get me more confused. I would appreciate it if you decide to answer any of my questions to be clear and not get off track.
i'm planning on starting out with a FOWLR, and hopefully moving my way to LPS.
My questions are:
1. Can someone direct me to a DIY sump page that would be appropriate for this size thank. I am turning my 55 ( 48"13"21") into a sump and there are so many pages that i'm not sure what would work best or what I need. almost forgot, my overflow box is dead center of the tank, not attached to the back, so water flows all around it.
2. a skimmer for this size thank that is not crazy expensive and would also fit the dimensions of the sump?
3. a return pump appropriate for my tank. ( From my understanding i need a turn over of around 15X to 20X) Ive looked into the Jebao/Jecod DCT 15000 DC Controllable Water Pump. ( good reviews, not much noise or power consumptions) let me know what you think?
4. Does anyone have any experience with the Jebao rw-20's? are they going to be overkill or should I go with the 15's? ( these are pretty cheap and have great reviews so i'm going with this brand) I have purchased around 240 pounds of dry rock ( fiji) for $750.00 and plan on using most of it.
5. Can i save some money by using regular play sand? I have it in my 30 Gallon and have not had any problems for the past 7 months. will it be ok in a larger tank?
6. what are my options with LED lights? ( tank is acrylic so i don't want the top to melt from the heat and i'm not trying to kill my wallet or use too much power) I already have 3X 55 gallons and a 30 running so power consumption is important.
I would greatly appreciate any input.lets just hope I can find this when i post it!! it's my first time posting here :bigeyes:
