I got a pair of onyx clowns from LFS today. Didn't seem sick at all and looked fine. I was informed they've been there for nearly a month. They look happy as can be, but the male (smaller one) has a decent sized white spot forward of his left fin and slightly above it. I don't know much about any diseases. And haven't had any before, what could this be? It almost looks fleshy to me. But I have no clue honestly, maybe he got got scraped during transport/ netting?? Please help!!

Or you could catch and freshwater dip the clown to see if flukes are present

Is that dangerous in any way? I don't want to stress an already sick fish if unnecessary. And by freshwater dip.... Do you mean tap water or RODI water?

So here's my best attempt at a few more pics.
I notice the item is raised from the skin kind of almost sticking out I'd say.

I have a pair myself and had one get it twice within 1 month of each outbreak. I believe it's called saprologina. I did a couple of fresh water dips within 1 week of each other each time. 4 minutes each time. It got better within a week of the dip. As long as they're eating fine they should survive.

I have been told by many others on another post I made that it looks like it may be just trauma, however I'm still concerned it could be a disease... Just super paranoid.. I hope it's nothing... Is saprologina contagious to other fish ? Or specific. To clowns?

What mine had looked like you could scrape it off. I was freaking out, did a bunch of research and spoke to someone at the lfs that I trust.

I have had them 24 hours so it's hard to tell. But imo yes they are very interested in food and keep going at it. Very hungry. Even though only one of them has the spot they both seem equally interested in food

Sounds just like mine. I stressed for weeks and the owner of the lfs kept sane. Clownfish are hardy fish and as long as they are eating they pull through.
Wait till you get a tang. They will make you pull your hair out.

1. Those are not onyx percula but rather percula x ocellaris hybrids known as "Black Photon"

2. they can be at a LFS for a year and it doesn't mean a thing other than that they are earing enough. At the LFS they can get infected with every new fish that comes in. In general the shorter they have been at a LFS the better.

3. with clownfish my first guesses would be Brooklynella, Trichodina, a bacterial infection or a combination of them. All manifest in a whitish haze on the body and fins. Brooklynella is usually fast progressing and the fish breath heavy and clamp their fins.

With new clownfish the first thing I do is giving them a formalin bath to kill Brooklynella and several other protozoan parasites. After that they should go for 8 weeks into a quarantine tank for observation and if needed treatment. Against ich it also is advised to send them through a series of tank transfers (TTM)

My recommendation would be to catch them, give them a formalin bath and the treat them in a QT with an antibiotic (BiFuran, FishMox, ...)

... Clownfish are hardy fish and as long as they are eating they pull through...

That's just not true. They may eat all along and still die in the end.

RO preferably. It is stressful, but so is disease. I would follow TheRoewer recommendations, he has much more first hand knowledge with clowns than I do (haven't owned a clownfish for the better part of a decade now)
