Hi, I'm planning a bit of a diy led build. I'm still on picking out the LEDs, Ive seen some 380nm-385nm leds and 390-400nm leds. think they are semileds. So I was thinking of adding a couple. Concern would be that they would harm corals. there's a graph somewhere online that shows uv light below 400nm penetrates pretty deep on the reefs and also alot of t5 and metal halide actinics have that little peak at about 380nm so I'm guessing should be ok but was wondering if any of you guys have added some of these uv's to your diy fixtures and what your results were. I might be wrong but it seems the LED fixtures you buy don't really cover below 400nm.
cheers, rob.

I put 1x 380nm Luxeon UV into each of my pendants (4 on a 90). Its honestly a pitiful amount of power and have no ill effects. I don't have a controlled experiment so I can't vouch for positive effects either :-D

I used 4 Led Engin, 385nm UV over a 150g (48x30x24). They are considered a medical grade UV (sterilization, dental curing, etc).

I ran these for about 1.5 years, never had any adverse effects, but cannot say that the wavelength made a difference for the better either.

Color wise, never saw any changes in the corals (sps, lps, softies, nems, clams, etc). The only time I could actually even tell they were on was at night, if I turned all the other leds off. Anything that was green or yellow looked ridiculous.

Kessil doesn't say exactly what UV LEDs are in the AP700s but they are in there. "Kessil's proprietary blend of precision UV light encourages coral coloration."
