So I have had this spotted mandarin for 5 months now. He has been in my tiny 16g not gaining much weight for about 4 months now. I never saw any signs of infection he just looked skinny. Once my pod population got up to par in my 120g tank I tossed him in the big tank (I acclimated him too) the about a week ago j started noticing grainy white pieces on his fin. I thought well maybe it is just the sand sticking to his mucous coat. Today I am looking at him and it looks like he rolled around on the sand bed shook off the excess and Went about his merry way. What i am worried about is if this is a parasite or a disease. He had put on weight and does not look skinny anymore. He is happily buzzing about the tank and does not seem to have any issues at this time. I don't want this spreading and want to treat sooner rather than later. It is all over his body now. Thanks

More than likely it's just sand. They have a resistance to ich. But it is resistance and not an immunity.

Yup. Just sand.

i also agree with the sand. mandarins have a slime coating that can be sticky.
good quality pictures will be the best way to get a definitive answer though.
