My water values are all in normal limits all my other corals are opening up but my one Duncan or closed up tight and won't open. I thought maybe it was because it was in an area of high flow or too much light so I moved him to a a area with less flow and an area under a rock ledge. I have noticed that my alk has been low 7.8Dkh so I have been dosing to bring it up. Any thoughts as to another problem. All my other sps are open and most of my Zoas are open to. Nitrates 10-15. Thanks

How new is it? Mine took a longish time to acclimate to the activity of the tank vs the frag tank at LFS. I keep my alk around 8.5 and my mag around 1450. What is your mag? I find them more "jumpy" with low alk or may.

Mine is finicky. Frequent water changes and feedings seem to help.
Along with keeping kh & ca consistent.

I will check the mag as soon as I get a chance. Last I checked it was around 1200-1250. All should be up to par I dosed it this morning. Thanks I will hopefully get that done tomorrow or the next day...work keeps getting in the way....well gotta pay for the hobby some how.

Carlos, that would mean that your water is "too clean" for anything less than SPS. LPS and softies etc like a bit of nitrates and phosphates in the water to thrive. SPS needs some but a trace is enough.

Too much flow and light makes a Duncan a very unhappy camper. Indirect light with low to moderate flow is best for these guys. Having stable water parameters helps a great deal as well. They love being fed. Think of them as the Feed me Seymour of the coral world.

True I have fed mine chunks of salmon usually given to my nem and the Duncan destroys them.

Duncan are famous for not liking alk swings so that would be my first thought. They need acclimation to higher flow and light but can thrive in pretty much all conditions ime.

I have mine in the tank and in high flow never had a problem its actually sprouted about ten new heads in the three months.

Stability! dKH between 8-9 should keep it happy.
It may sound weird, but check for stray voltage.
