So about a month ago I got in some fish from LA. I shouldn't have as I was staging and about to kick off a kitchen remodel but it happened.
That said I ordered in a harlequin tusk , powder blue, and a bristletooth tang for my tank. They were going through TTM and needed one more switch of the tanks to finalize ttm. I had lost the bristletooth early on within a day or two of recieving the fish but no noticeable signs of disease. I asked my wife to swap them for me as I was starting demo. I had the other tank laid out and heater in it and such and didn't expect her to over look it but my fault for not being specific. She put the fish into the DT. I could not catch them in my rockwork and thus dosed with prazi hoping for the best.
Soon after the intro to the main tank I lost the powder blue. Again he looked fine with no visible signs of ich or such but a death regardless. The tusk started to decline himself in the next week. His color started to fade slightly and then I found him struggling to breathe one morning and he was gone soon after.
My kole tang, tail spot blenny, and black ice clown have all also died following this and they were all in the tank for months and the blenny/clown came from my disease free nano. I do have a melenarus wrasse and 2 pj cardinals in the tank still with no signs of disease or other issues.
I have not seen any ammonia or nitrite in the tank during this all and have not noticed any other issues in the tank. Water change schedule did go out of whack for 2 weeks so my nitrates climbed higher then normal but that has been addressed.
Basically I have a fear that it was velvet given the rapid loses I had. My issue is that I could not see any signs of velvet in the fish and the prazi should have taken care of many of the other typical issues.
I know safest course of action is to remove fish for 72+ days and treat with something like NLS Ick Shield but I have also read wrasse's do not do well with such. I also am not sure I could catch the bugger...
I do have the tusk and clown bodies in the freezer if there is something in particular I should look for to have a better indication of what might have gone through my tank. But what next steps should I take?
