Hi all,

I'm possibly about to buy a tank off someone, but they have the return line drilled a lot lower than the weir. Their current method is a locline snaking up to the weir line which I don't like.

Is there any other options I could go with?

At the moment I'm thinking the only options would be:

1. the way it's done now
2. cap it off completely, and bring the return out the weir instead.
3. A check valve (can these be trusted?)

There's no other way to stop it syphoning is there? Any thoughts?

Thanks

Check valve will not be a reliable option. Otherwise it's an aesthetic choice only you can make. Depending upon how low, you could also just oversize the sump so it would hold the back siphoned volume. I suppose you could also rig up an external siphon break that ought to work in theory, but it'd require a tube over the the rim of the tank which rather defeats the purpose of drilling the return to begin with.
