View Full Version : What's it worth?

Hi there.
A fellow reefer here at the office mentioned that he was looking for a used controller and I then remembered that I bought one a few years ago that I never used! I dug around in my storage room of "surplus tank stuff" (wow, I've got a lot of equipment in there!) and found, still in the box, an Apex Lite Controller. I bought it from someone on the forum here a few years ago, stashed it away for future use, and forgot about it (or was intimidated by it).

If I were to offer it to my co-worker, what would be a fair asking price? I don't think it was ever used by the original owner so for all intents and purposes, it's new, but I also know it's discontinued. I don't know what they were going for back in the day and I don't remember what I paid for it so I'm at a loss of what a fair price would be.

Thanks in advance for any input and feedback.

I think the lite became the jr. Which is around $230 new.

Thanks for the quick and helpful reply! But being "discontinued", would the buyer have any issues with software? I know nothing about controllers (obviously, since I bought one and never opened the box). :strange:

What does it come with? If I recall properly the Jr. Had no display and only 4 outlets. The lite had the display and 8 outlets. I think there are a few other differences but those are the one I remember off the top of my head. The wife bought me the lite a few years ago it cost about almost $500.

Wow - thanks, Gar! It comes with the display, 8 outlets, temp probe and also a PH probe.

Hi Guys.
After reading about and really getting into what the Apex Lite is all about, I'm guessing this is going to be overkill for my co-worker (he's not in the office for the rest of the week but I'm fairly confident he won't be interested). That being said, here are some photos of the Apex Lite and the compatible PH probe that I may as well sell - shame to see it going to waste. I never used it and it doesn't look like the previous owner did, either.

Make me an offer I can't refuse.

Not true... really not looking for any corals or fish right now - would prefer cold, hard cash. And even if it IS a lightning, I've had it with clowns. Just gave away my breeding pair, all their offspring, and am taking a break from them. They can be real pains in the butts, as we all know.

Someone buy his fish so he can get back into the bidding war!

Thanks for the offers. To be fair I should probably leave this open through tomorrow night since not all members log on here daily but I won't let this drag out too long - promise. And we're staying local this weekend so this exchange can take place as early as Friday if you'd like - gives you a 3-day weekend to play with it. :)

Thanks, RG - you're the one that got the ball rolling, and, you never know, stranger things have happened. All the other offers could fall through - stay tuned.

Ah HA - so it WAS you!!!! I was just searching through all my PM's, received and sent, trying to find the transaction to see who it was with and when it was. You certainly do take good care of your stuff - original packaging and none of it has a single drop of salt water residue! It all worked when you sold it, right? I've never even taken the stuff out of the box.

Yes, it was fully functional. The only item you would want to check is to see if the PH probe tip is still wet due to the amount of time in storage.

SOLD!

Thanks, guys..... I'm thrilled that this piece of equipment will be put to proper use rather than sitting in a box going to waste.

Happy reefing!
