This article covers vodka dosing and gives a very conservative dosing schedule:

Dosing vodka can reduce the nitrate level in many tanks, although a lot of tanks require separate filtration to remove phosphate. Vodka filtration removes a lot more nitrate than phosphate in terms of ppm.

If this is a path you are taking, make sure to start SLOW follow the guide above and make sure to not get too anxious with it or results. I would run GFO with it to remove Phosphates.

Vinegar is more forgiving, less concentrated

I have dosed vitamin C with success.

Vinegar is about 1/8 as concentrated as 80 proof vodka, in terms of organic carbon. Some people are more successful with it. You can use the chart for vodka and multiply the volume by eight if you'd like to try dosing vinegar.

I've dosed both vodka 36 ml per day and vinegar 80 ml per day for abut 6 years to a hevily fed mixed reef ystem. PO4 is maintained in the 0.02ppm to 0.04ppm range with NO3 around 0.2ppm consistently. The acutual maintenance dose for each tank will vary based on the particulars of the aquarium. Most settle in on amaintenace dose at between 0.03 to 0.07 ml of 80 proof vodka and /or equivalent portions or vinegar per gallon of water volume.
You can follow the chart noted in post 2 for a very safe start up or lyou may go a bit faster to readh the aintenance dose .
