View Full Version : 2 Skimmers In AIO (Rear Sump) Tank?

Hi All,

Does it make sense to run two skimmers in an AIO tank with the rear sump? I have an overflow on each end of the tank which feed into the rear sump area. Right now I have a Tunze 9004 on one end and was thinking of putting one on the other end only if it would be fairly beneficial. Also, concerned about heat...Do skimmers give off a fair amount of heat?

Thanks,

how big is the tank- relative newbie but I think there would be a diminished return on that. Your All-In one is probably less gallons then your tunze 9004 is rated for. How is your flow I would imagine your water makes it to both sides of the tank

Tank is 45G, good flow with a gyre 130 which flows mostly into the overflow where the current skimmer is.

On a 45 the tunze 9004 is plenty big, on that size tank a second skimmer would probably not work since their isn't enough proteins in the water to allow two skimmers to skim so you would cause more harm then good

how is the skim from your Tunze? I am not happy with my skimmer wondering if upgrading to tunze is worth it. Maybe you buy it and decide it is not worth and I can buy lightly used at a fraction of cost :)

pennies on the loonie :)
