Ok so I've finally bought a tank, been extremely busy with work but decided that I couldn't pass on a cheap see one hand tank! http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160611/145c4b3604d15d80cf193e1b9dcad8a5.jpg

Its an ocean free 96L, not sure how good they are but I got it for a bargain. Compared to what I was going to get this is absolutely amazing haha. Will be doing a build thread for it, what's everyone think?

I like those little all-in-one tanks... Is that a skimmer built in as well? What species are you hoping to put in there? Clean it out really well with vinegar & RO/DI. Nice find!

Yes inbuilt skimmer, all the local pet shops say they are quite a good basic set up. Which should be perfect for a mantis. Definitely going to clean it up well before I start using it,

I plan on putting in some type, no idea what but it will be a smaller one but in any case I want a small one even if it's a peacock, I'll keep it in this then upgrade once I think it's nessasary

How do I go about making a pvc burrow that looks half decent covered in substrate? what glue do I use to stick it on?

Any gel CA glue will work.

Be sure the tube says Cynoacrylate. I may have mispelled, but you get the idea.

BRS has bulk super glue gel. Best value I've seen so far. I use it for everything. It's like $30 for a big jug of it, which would cost hundreds if bought in little $1 tubes.

I always get the extra thick gel because I want to be able to control where the glue goes. And it adheres great to rock and anything else.

I don't have any advice on making a pvc look natural tho, just haven't tried doing that.

But check out brs for super glue, or jurassic glue. You won't be sorry and it's something you will need throughout the life of your tank.

Actually, just a thought, you could coat the pvc in a layer of CA gel with a disposable brush, then roll it in crushed coral or coarse sand to give it a nice facade.

Just thought about that as I was eating a salted nut roll lol

Hey guys, tank stand is built, water is going in tomorrow at some stage as well as some live rock I guess?

I'm also wondering what clean up crew I should have, don't care if they get eaten by the mantis at some stage but I want something else in there before the mantis is found... Any ideas?

Something cheap and hardy. Mexican turbo snails maybe. They eat a lot and are fun to watch.

Be careful tho, if the tank is new, you're gonna need something to feed the cuc. They can starve and die causing your tank to have high ammonia levels

Rock and water in, I just chucked the rock in for now, doesn't look that bad but I definitely haven't tried to scape it haha

Was it's dry rock, or liverock?

Live rock, why do you ask?

Curing. One of the harder things to do, is let the rock cure for up to 3 months before adding livestock. Kinda the only way to purge it of phosphates. Besides chemicals of course

Our stuff here in Australia only takes between 2-4 weeks until levels are acceptable

Live rock in Australia has to be str8 from the great Barrier reef.

Must be nice.

BRS pukani has been known to take 6 months before phosphates are manageable.

Ok so bit of an update.

I've got 4 glass shrimp, 2 turbo snails and a hermit running around in the tank at the moment. Still waiting for my mantis to come in... Was sick of looking at a bare tank! I know they will most likely get killed but that's ok!

Be sure to pull out that hair algae. It can build up quick, and it traps phosphates like a mofo
