@Op

Great pictures. What DSLR are you using with the Tokina macro lens? It is a great lens, I am planning to get one, too. Did you use a tripod?

@kutcha

As far as I know, Tokina 100 mm f2.8 macro will not auto focus on D3100. You need to focus manually.

You can get Tamron 90mm macro which cost lot low, if budget permits, you can get Nikon 105mm F2.8G VR lens. Both will work well with D3100.

D7200 is enthusiast level top end APS-C camera. I did not use it but from the reviews, it seems to be top notch. Its has a touchscreen LCD, too if I remember correctly?

Ok then might be D7300 is going to have the touchscreen, similar to D5500. Anyway, pics are awesome. But they can be even better if you can concentrate a bit more on accurate focusing. Are you using tripod and manual focus?

What ISO are you shooting at? My guess is pretty high (3200 or 6400?)... There seems to be a lot of noise in the photos, though it also be could be in part if you are cropping out a large area of the photo so that they look closer.

I'd definitely recommend getting a tripod so that you can decrease the shutter speed and turn your ISO down so that you get significantly less noise in the pictures.

They look great, just very noisy IMO.

Yeah, must be either high ISO or much cropping. If you're not using a tripod, you're likely missing out on much better image quality. You could take your ISO down to 100 and go for a several second exposure. If you're cropping a lot, frame your shots more on your subject closer to the minimum working distance for the lens. Then there will be less cropping to do, and less "zoom" on noise.

ISO 800. Yeah detail is bad cause I upload it directly to my phone then upload it here. The application automatically converts it to a small jpg file around 300kb file size?
