I was just looking at the life on the glass and notice it's gone up in amount considerably since I first noticed. Is this normal? Kinda seems like a large concentration to me.

What your seeing on the glass are most likely Copepods. The population usually rises and falls depending on the amount of food in the sytem.

Does yours have that many? I was also expecting some starfish and other "tiny white bugs" on the glass but its almost exclusively these pods and a handful of what looks like tiny hairs. I'm actually convinced they are alive and maybe some sort of worm
