RO/DI Sediment filter alternatives???

I was wondering if anybody has tried cheaper sediment filters such as those that are on Amazon that are marketed towards drinking water filters. I've seen some that are as cheap as 5 bucks each with 0.5 micron rating which could save a good bit of money because my well water is heavy in iron and seems to dirty the filters quickly. Thanks!

I wouldn't try going too cheap, the sediment filter is to protect your membrane which is about $50 for a decent model

Can't you run a pre-filter to the RO system?
