Auxilary Power for new Apex

According to the Neptune site, the recommended supply for the Auxilary power is the NEP-PS12. I have seen at least one post which said they hooked an auxilary supply and it didn't work - other undesireable things happened with the controller. The only source I could find for the NEP-PS12 was Aquarium Specialty which seemed unusual, normally several vendors carry a product. I would like to add the NEP-PS12 connected to my UPS to keep the brain alive during power failures and brown outs, but am reluctant because of the post I read.

Any advice on this?

Also - What funtions (programs saved, WiFi still enabled) will the auxillary port provide when connected to UPS during a power failure of the energy bar?
