hi
i am new to saltwater
i just begain few days ago cycle on my new 525l aquarium
the ammonia is starting to build.
1 month ago i gave alot of ceramic media (siporax) to my lps to put it
in his coral tank in order to build some good bectaria colony so i can speed up cycle when times come.
now im not sure if its good idea to take that ceramic media from my lps and put it in my new aquarium since some ppl told me its a bad idea and i can have some hitchhiker and disease from the pet store into my new system
i really want to speed things up and asking for more opnion since i dont want to do a big mistake
offcurse that i dont have any fish at the moment.i got about 40 kg of dry rocks in my aquarium and im planing fowlr setup at the moment

thanks in advance

sure you can add stuff from another tank..
yes it could transfer pests/diseases..

wanting to speed things up is your first mistake..
Let nature take its course.. Don't rush...
You only have a few weeks to wait..

You could add one of the bacteria in a bottle supplements like Dr. Tim's One and Only to speed up the cycle. I would agree the water in your local fish store is going to likely have pests.

hi
another question regarding my cycle
i started the cycle 8 days ago on my reffer 525xl
i got 40kg of dry rock
and i added small piece of frozen fish in order to help build ammonia
my new protein skimmer tunze 9410 was creating foam on the first few days
but now only make bubble that stay low and not building foam or any junk to the cup
is that normal or its probably somthing wrong with the skimmer
i have tried to adjust the height of the skimmer and to adjust the air valve
but nothing works

thanks

Your water is mostly clean since you started with dry rock and only a small piece of fish. There is nothing for the skimmer to skim out.

Hi, A protein skimmers job is to remove organic matter before it has a chance to breakdown and decay. this causes ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates.

I personally do not run a protein skimmer during the initial cycle. I just assume I want that stuff in there to get and keep the cycle rolling.

I am sure other will chime in soon.
