It's been a few years but I'm back and finally setting up my 240 gallon with 120g sump.

I need to pick a return pump at this point. The inside diameter of my two return bulkheads is about 1". Better to get a pump with 1.5" return and split it with a y or t, or push full flow to only one return with a single large pump? Or something completely different?

general rule of thumb is 3-5x (up to 10x) display volume should be the flowrate of your return pump after head loss..
So a 240G tank would need a return pump capable of 720 to 1200 GPH after head loss..

No problem splitting it with a T.. But you don't need a pump with a huge outlet to achieve the desired flow rate.. One with a 1" output should be plenty.. Just keep it 1" plumbing all the way and just split it to 2 outputs..

On my 240 I use a Vectra M1 set at about 60%-65%, which gives me about approx. 900gph.
I like mine a little on the slower side.
Helps keep the tank on the quieter side.

I would go with the Vectra L1. I t will give you the option to run external reactors etc using a manifold in your plumbing design.
