Is it stony? The pic makes me think it's a leather

Not even sure this is a true coral, its openings lack septums it also lacks verrucae and papillae on the coenosteum, assuming it is a true coral of course.
Not a clue here, maybe someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

Heliopora

I first thought this too at first but to me it looks like it lacks the papillae you would usually see with Heliopora. could just be the pic quality not making it apparent, it very well could be Heliopora.

Throw some more flow at it, see if you can get it to open up more, if you see what look like tiny flower looking polyps extending then more than likely Gorgok nailed it with his ID of it being heliopora.

Can't tell the scale from the pic. Color and smoothness look like Helio but it would have to be a highly zoomed macro shot for the pores to look that big.

Yeah im assuming its really damn close and only measures about an inch wide, little over inch long. Quick check of the heliopora ID would be to flip it over and see if its blue on the non-skin side bits. Or break off a chunk and see if the insides are blue (little chunks can be placed in another spot and it will grow just fine too). Mine looks almost exactly like that when its plating, then the little lumps will decide to make branches at some point. I find it grows pretty fast, likes plenty of light and pretty decent flow.

I did some reading on heliopora and yes I moved him right into the flow and good light. If he opens more I will throw a picture up.

Correct he is about 1.5" square.

I got him last year and my normal coral sales guy wasn't there so it was just bagged up. He was in the $5 section so that's why I got him

Still looks like a heliopora. :spin2:

Helio.

If you can get to the back of the frag and see where they broke it off, you will see blue.
