You mean sump right? (not refugium)
A sump can have a refugium as part of it but a refugium is not a sump..

In general for sumps..the bigger the better.. and typically its suggested to have your return pump capable of 3-5X display tank volume per hour (after head/friction losses)..

a 40G breeder tank makes a great sump if you want to roll your own..

ok now that is what i was thinking that means i have to build my own tank stand..

so when it comes to the sump there is a lot of ways that they come also just looking the price is crazy it is a head spinner when it comes to all the things needed for a great setup.:fish1::fish1::fish1::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

yep.. doing anything "right" is rarely cheap..
Many make their sumps from "petco" $1 gallon 40G breeders or other sizes and some glass from the glass shop + silicone..
And not all companies charge an arm and a leg for aquarium products..

You can also do "hang on" refugiums if a sump isn't an option/want..

If you haven't already.. I'd suggest getting somewhat up to speed with the "sticky" posts as the top of this subforum.. The "setting up" has links to overviews of it..

Be ready to spend some money!!! I'm just getting into the hobby my self and I'm already 1,200-1,500 bucks deep into my setup and I still have to get live rock, light, coral And fish

New is not always better, check Craigslist or the for sale forum for cheap deals

As for the sump, three sections works well, can never go wrong with sump size. This is what I'm working with for a 180.
