Bit of an odd one. I'm looking at the XR15 FW for a freshwater build I'm doing. I don't need intensity as I'm not growing plants, but I do want control. The tank I'm looking to cover is very large, about 160x54x30.

It looks like 8" off the water the XR15 covers about a 30x30" area. If I were to mount them 24" above the water any idea what sort of coverage I would get? Ideally I'd like to get by with only one row, but I'm thinking I might need a couple of staggered rows.

They are on sale right now. MY LFS has 4 AI 26 over a 10' X 3' X 3' and it covers it well. It is a FOLR tank.

Thanks for the heads up! I hadn't noticed that and might have missed it. That's a pretty good discount on them, might be time to buy a bunch

I probably owned the first one, it did a great job on my planted tank. After two years I am coming back....

Anyway, check this out:

Yes, I use the same handle name on pt.

I think the xr15fw are being discontinued, most planted tank guys do NOT spend nearly what reefers spend. I think ecotech figured that out. Most planted tank guys will spend $40 for a finnex planted + 24/7 over a $300 led.

BTW, the term they use for "high tech" system is just adding co2 lol.

I've actually been through that thread a couple times. I've learned there really aren't many people using the fw version, which like you said, it is expensive for the area it'll light.

I don't plan to grow plants but the way my tank will be I need a pendant design that looks good. I actually ended up ordering five more of them due to the sale
