Other than a slow input and output, would there be any problems with this? The external pump on it may be too quick for bio pellets, but other than that?

I don't think it will work. Marine Depot is selling a Aqua Maxx bio pellet that is a rebadge It is cheaper than the Hydra that it is rebadged. I have the small unit and it stripped the water on my 120 gallon tank so be careful on how much you use.
